Mom and Dad

I've been doing a lot of experimentation with custom brushes in Photoshop. I've been fairly unsatisfied with my attempts to replicate that "traditional" look that so many of the digital artists I admire seem to be able to accomplish. Well, yesterday I dusted off my Sargent book and threw in some Lucien Frued for good measure and gave it another go with some life studies. The results are these two portraits of my parents. I think I'm getting closer to what I'm looking for.

Hey everybody, Welcome to my blog! Have you ever been blown to smithereens? Sometimes that's what happens when I start dreaming and drawing at the same time. Little bits and pieces of imaginative debris land on the blank pages of my sketchbook. Now and then, some of those bits contain a bit of character, mystery or magic. When that happens, I begin the process of recovery. I dig and polish and dig and polish some more until that visual smithereen is something that can effectively communicate whatever concept I happen to be blasting for.
